National League Umpire Augie Donatelli was a B-17 gunner who participated in the first daylight air raid of Berlin. 68 American planes failed to return from the mission, tail gunner Donatelli's aircraft was knocked out of the sky and he was forced to bail out and subsequently captured. The biography details what transpired, and the video below is archival footage of the historic raid that made a huge psychological impact on the war effort in 1944.
